Even though we were tired and jetlag ( our body adapted to
time differences when we start to do activity in U.S. in the morning our body are
used to sleep because in Indonesia it’s late evening) we were made sure we
wouldn’t waste our precious 5 weeks just with sleeping all day!
On the
first day of our activity we filled in questioner to know how deep our
understanding is toward U.S, we were also given orientation about our program
for 5 weeks. We did some introduction game to try remembering all of our new
family (Indonesian folks and also the staff!)
From
what I experienced I felt the staffs from Dialogue Institute and ICCE
understood our condition very much, they really cared with our condition and
always make sure we are comfortable. They wanted us to adapt slowly with the so
American-world, so they served Indonesian food for us! Yap, Indonesian food in
U.S. is as delicious as the “original” one; it is made by Indonesian who lives
in Philadelphia. Quite a lot of Indonesians choose to stay ate the historical
city of United States. I found it’s interesting how I tasted the same and also
different flavor at the same time.
To
summarize this day one word that fits is introduction! To be a real family, the
staffs arranged us to know each other more by asking some personal questions to
other Indonesian friends and making posters of him/her. Through the activity we
knew more about the characteristic, vision and also identity of our other
folks. What a wonderful day to start the unforgettable journey!
